The Story Behind the Stitches

The Story Behind the Stitches

For over fifty years, I have lived and breathed the art of bridal sewing. My journey began at Wynshaw’s Bridal Shop in Hartford, where I first discovered the power of detail and fit. From there, I became a manager and Sample Maker for the designer at a short-lived wedding gown factory in Enfield. The next decade found me in general alterations, where I ultimately returned to my first love — bridal. Over the years, I worked with several Connecticut bridal shops, spending the 1990s and early 2000s with Brides to Be in Glastonbury.

Eventually, I landed at The White Dress by the Shore in Clinton, where I spent fifteen enchanting years as the in-house seamstress. There, I had the privilege of altering gowns and creating veils, along with playful accessories that graced countless photo shoots and campaigns by Beth Chapman Styling. Each piece was a collaboration of imagination and meticulous craftsmanship. Though retired from alterations, I continue to make accessories and custom Lacey Eden veils for The White Dress, and a collection of ready-to-go Penny Barone veils is available at Brides to Be.

Along the way, I gathered ribbons, laces, fabrics, trims, and treasures — a lifetime accumulation of materials chosen with care. These fabrics became the foundation of my private label collection, The One, a line of sustainable Little White Dresses crafted from remnants of bridal projects and my own archive. Each dress is one-of-a-kind, ensuring that the bride who wears it will be the only one to ever step into that fabric.

Today, I open my archive to brides, makers, and dreamers. This store is more than inventory; it is a heritage resource, a gallery of artistry, and a celebration of Connecticut brides since 1976. From the simplest ribbon to the most intricate veil, every piece carries the promise of legacy, individuality, and beauty stitched by hand.
